This changes an image's pixel dimensions by scaling the whole frame to the width and height you set. Everything stretches or shrinks together; no part of the picture is removed the way a crop removes it. Aspect ratio locks by default so one field adjusts the other proportionally, and the output format (PNG, JPEG, or WEBP) is chosen separately from the resize itself.

When you'd use this

Fitting an image to exact pixel dimensions required by an upload form or spec, shrinking a large photo to cut its file size before sending it somewhere, or scaling a small graphic up for a layout that needs it larger.

Common errors

Turn off 'Lock Aspect Ratio', type in a width and height combination that doesn't match the original proportions, and the image stretches or squashes. It never crops. If the goal is to remove part of the frame instead of distorting it, use the Image Cropper.

Scaling an image up well beyond its original resolution adds no detail. The canvas is interpolating pixels that already exist, so a large upscale comes out visibly softer than the source.

Frequently asked questions

Does resizing crop out any part of my image?

No. The entire image is scaled to the new dimensions and nothing is cut off. If the target ratio doesn't match the source and aspect lock is off, the image stretches instead of losing content.

Why is there a quality slider for some formats but not others?

The quality slider only appears for JPEG and WEBP, because they're lossy formats with an adjustable compression level. PNG is lossless, so there's no quality setting to tune.

Can I make an image larger than its original size?

You can, though expect softer results. The resizer stretches the pixels already there; it doesn't reconstruct detail that was never in the source.
