This changes an image's pixel dimensions by scaling the whole frame to the width and height you set - it stretches or shrinks everything, it doesn't remove any part of the picture the way a crop does. Aspect ratio locks by default so one field adjusts the other proportionally, and the output format (PNG, JPEG, or WEBP) is chosen separately from the resize itself.

Fitting an image to exact pixel dimensions required by an upload form or spec, shrinking a large photo down to cut its file size before sending it somewhere, or scaling a small graphic up for a layout that needs it larger.

Common errors

Turning off 'Lock Aspect Ratio' and typing in a width/height combination that doesn't match the original proportions stretches or squashes the image rather than cropping it - if the goal is to remove part of the frame instead of distorting it, use the Image Cropper.

Scaling an image up well beyond its original resolution doesn't add detail - the canvas is just interpolating the existing pixels, so a large upscale comes out visibly softer than the source.
