There's a difference between a valid product *number* and a scannable barcode *image* - this renders an actual barcode from a code you provide, in CODE128, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC, ITF-14, CODE39 or Codabar, and downloads it as a PNG ready for a label.
When you'd use this
Printing test labels for a warehouse or QA process, or generating a scannable barcode image for a product listing or shipping label without needing design software.
CODE128 accepts arbitrary text (not just digits), which makes it the right choice for internal SKUs or tracking codes rather than a retail-standard numeric format like EAN-13 or UPC.
Common errors
Choosing EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC or ITF-14 requires a code of the exact right length with a valid check digit - if your code doesn't validate, generate or fix it with the GTIN Converter or the EAN/UPC Generator first, then bring the corrected code back here to render.
CODE39 and Codabar are more permissive about input but produce wider barcodes for the same content - if a label has limited space, CODE128 is usually the more compact choice for non-numeric data.
Frequently asked questions
Which barcode format should I use?
For retail products, EAN-13 or UPC-A (whichever your market/scanner expects) is the standard. For internal tracking, warehouse, or logistics use where the code isn't a registered retail product number, CODE128 is the most flexible general-purpose choice.
Will this validate my code before rendering it?
For the check-digit-based formats (EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC, ITF-14) yes - an invalid code won't produce a scannable barcode, since the check digit is part of what a real scanner verifies. CODE128, CODE39 and Codabar don't use a GS1 check digit, so any text within their supported character set will render.
Can I use this for a real product going to retail?
The rendering itself is standard and scannable, but the underlying number still needs to be a real, licensed GS1 code for retail use - this tool renders whatever code you give it, it doesn't verify that the number is actually registered to you.
