Why fee rates aren't looked up automatically
Commission percentages are set per marketplace, and within a marketplace they vary by product category, sometimes by seller tier or subscription level on top of that. No single "marketplace fee" figure exists. Check your marketplace's current category-wise commission schedule and enter that rate directly.
What counts as a fee here
Commission (the marketplace's cut of the sale), payment gateway processing, marketplace-handled shipping, and any other fixed per-order charges such as closing fees, weight handling and storage all pull the payout below the listing price. Leave any of them out and you'll overstate what a listing nets you.
Margin needs your product cost, payout alone doesn't show it
A healthy-looking payout can still hide a thin or negative margin once your own product cost comes off it. The optional cost field adds that comparison, so what you're checking is profitability and not merely the size of the fee bite.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my actual marketplace payout lower than this calculator predicts?
Look for fees this tool has no dedicated field for. Storage and fulfilment fees, return-processing charges, and promotional or ad spend deducted at settlement are the usual gaps. Add them into "other fixed fees" for a fuller picture.
Does commission rate depend on anything other than category?
Often, yes. Some marketplaces tier commission by seller performance level, subscription plan, or promotional programs the listing is enrolled in. Use the rate that applies to your account and category, not a generic published headline rate.
