A WiFi QR code holds the network name, the security type and the password in a format every recent phone camera understands. Point the camera at it and the phone offers to join, with no password read out across a counter or typed wrong three times.

This tool builds that code in your browser. The password you type is written into the image you download and nowhere else. Nothing is sent to a server, and the page keeps no record of it.

What the code contains

The string follows the WIFI: convention that both iOS and Android camera apps recognise: the security type (WPA, WEP or open), the network name, the password, and a flag for hidden networks. The panel under the preview shows the exact string, so you can confirm nothing has been added to it.

Characters that have a meaning inside that format, such as semicolons and colons, are escaped automatically. A network called Cafe: Main Floor works without you doing anything to it.

Choosing the security type

Almost every router made in the last decade uses WPA2 or WPA3. Both are covered by the WPA option, and phones negotiate the specific version themselves. Pick WEP only if the router is old enough that WPA is not offered, and consider replacing it, since WEP has been broken for years.

Open network removes the password field. Use it for a guest network that has no password by design, not as a shortcut for one that does.

Hidden networks

A hidden network does not broadcast its name, so a phone cannot join it from the WiFi list alone. Turning the Hidden switch on adds the flag that tells the phone to look for the name directly. Leave it off for a normal network; setting it when the network is visible can make some phones take longer to connect.

Printing it

Download the SVG for anything that will be printed. It scales to a table card or a wall poster without going blurry, where a PNG has a fixed pixel size. For screens and documents the PNG is fine, and the resolution slider sets how large it is.

Keep the quiet zone, the blank border around the code, at two modules or more. A code printed edge to edge on a coloured card is the most common reason one refuses to scan.

Test the printed card with a phone from a metre away before making fifty of them.

Frequently asked questions

Is my WiFi password sent anywhere?

No. The code is generated inside your browser and the password is only placed into the image file you download. There is no upload, no account and no history kept on this page.

Will it work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. Both camera apps read the WIFI: format natively and offer to join the network. On very old phones a dedicated QR scanner app may be needed, and some show the password rather than joining automatically.

Does changing the WiFi password break the printed code?

Yes. The password is stored inside the code, so a new password means a new code. If you change it often, keep the SVG file so a fresh version is quick to print.

Which security option should I choose?

WPA, for any router that offers WPA2 or WPA3, which is nearly all of them. The phone works out the exact version. Only choose WEP for equipment too old to support WPA.

Why does the code get denser when I add a logo?

Adding a logo raises the error correction level to H so the covered modules can be recovered. Higher correction stores more redundancy, which means more modules for the same password. It scans as well or better; it just looks busier.

Can I put the code on a coloured background?

Yes, as long as the contrast stays high. Dark modules on a pale background scan reliably. Light modules on a dark background often fail, and low-contrast brand palettes are the usual culprit when a styled code will not read.
